I have been interested in the music, dance and culture of the Balkans and Turkey for many years. My husband George Chittenden and I traveled for a year, living in Greece for 6 months to study music and the Greek language. We play in two bands, Edessa, a rockin’ 4 piece band based in the Bay Area, playing music from the Balkans and beyond, and Ziyiá, a 5 piece band featuring traditional Greek music. Ziyiá’s music was used for a film at the Sundance Film Festival this year. These bands keep us busy traveling, playing for weddings, parties, and camps all over the US. I am also on the Board of Directors of Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center, a unique venue presenting world music, bringing people of all ages and ethnicities together through the power of music and dance. |
